St Andrew's School Scheme Profiles
There are a wide range of factors that prompt parents and teachers into getting a Walking Bus started. In this section of the Walking Bus site we give each of the schemes operating in Kent an opportunity to explain why they set up a 'bus' and what lessons they can pass on to those just starting. They detail the routes of their 'bus' to help promote their scheme.

We set up the bus to reduce road traffic & increase road awareness, as well as to improve health & safety for the children. This has been very successful.
St Andrew's Profile
As a govenor I took on the role of traffic govenor to look at ways to address the congestion problems our school faces. The DFT had supplied 'A safer routes to school' booklet which was inspirational.
Myself, Mr Allen the headteacher, board of govoners gave our full support.
Mrs Dobberson, Mr Johnson, Mrs Richards were the original parents to rally behind the idea.
Each bus has its own name:
Hilltop hikers operate from Goddington road, Hillside avenue, Mill road, Ravenswood alley, West St, Cooling rd, Hilltop road.
The Windmill walkers walk from Quioxte crescent, Windmill road, West Street, Cooling road, Hilltop road.
The Benenden bus goes from Rolvendon road, Benenden road, Cypress road, Hilltop road
Each bus runs the same time. I.e I am the overall co-ordinator each route has a rota person. Each bus has different ways to reward the children.
Hilltop hikers give sweets on Friday and Windmill walkers give stickers. Our hopes for the future are more routes. I have to find new ways to make walkers find the bus worthwhile, this is our only obstacle - lack of walkers
